Few Misconceptions Associated With Saas-based Project Management Tools

By now, a large percentage of businesses has become aware of the benefits of opting for a management software to streamline their processes. However, despite the growing awareness, a lot of businesses still have misconceptions about using cloud-based or Saas-based project management software.

Let’s take a look at a few of those misconceptions and analyse how true they are -

  • Cloud-based tools are costly

That may or may not be true. Let’s not say that all Saas-based tools are cheap or at least cheaper than their installable counterparts. But, think about it. These tools are managed and maintained by third parties, which own them and release their updates. You are not going to spend even a single penny on maintenance.

On-site software demand dedicated IT staff just to install, update, and maintain them. Deploying that staff is going to need money. So, really think about it - which option is cheaper? The one where you need dedicated staff to take care of the installation and maintenance of the software? Or, the one where somebody else is doing that job for you for free?

  • There will be less control over the data

This is another concern that people have about cloud-based project management software that runs on cloud. Lot of people think that if they store their data on cloud, they may lose control over it. If that’s really the concern bugging you, then make sure to opt for a service provider that has good reputation for securing the client data. You could also ask the service provider about what contingency plans they follow in case of emergency.

  • Software that runs on cloud are not secure

This doubt is justified considering data is the most important asset for every business. Enterprises in particular have this concern because they have more data to handle.

The thing is that cloud-based service providers are fully aware of the fact that unless they can provide world class security, they cannot attract clients. That’s the reason online project management software happen to be more secure.

Installable software are stored on multiple computers. You need a huge security team to take care of a tool that is installed across a number of machines. But, cloud-based apps have full-time security staff taking care of the servers. That’s much easier than taking care of software installed on so many machines. But, if you still aren’t convinced that your data will be safe, have the service provider explain what measures they take to safeguard the data from security threats.

I hope the post debunks some of the myths associated with using cloud-based project management tool. The idea is to get those people who are probably contemplating the plans to opt for a Saas-based software, but are hesitant to do so.
