There are so many types of project managers - good, bad, experienced, novice, effective and ineffective. We read about them, take help from Google and if you are lucky enough to have one in your organization, we observe and try to emulate their behavioral characteristics.

Successful project managers are made because of their daily habits and keenness to update themselves with the evolving technologies. They are well through with all sorts of project management systems and form habits that will help them to be highly productive - professionally and personally.

Let’s take a look at the habits of successful project managers and inculcate them to be one of them:

  • They make to-do lists
Every successful project manager starts off by making to-do lists. They list all the tasks that need to be done in it and then prioritize them. For prioritization, they use labels such as Important, Urgent etc. This helps them to plan better and put their energies on the work that matter. Some make conventional to-do lists with a pen and paper while other use project management tools to do the same.

  • They focus on one goal at a time
Once a list is made, the next step is to give every task a time-limit and then focus on it - one by one. Instead of multitasking, they prefer to work on one task at a time. This reduces any chances of them being distracted by other things and work on that specific task with full concentration and focus. If required, they also club similar tasks together and don’t mind decomposing bigger tasks into smaller ones as well.

  • They take breaks
The recent studies show that taking a break after every 60 or 90 minutes can help you perform better than those who work for longer hours without any break. This is why effective project managers like to take small breaks after every hour or so and they also encourage others to do the same. Disconnecting or disengaging from work can increase happiness, health, and overall productivity.

  • They use the right project management software
No project manager would deny the need for online project management systems in today’s time. According to a study, two-thirds of successful companies are using project management software for managing their projects and communication purposes. That’s why successful project managers like to update themselves with all kinds of project management software to make the most of them.
